Coconut Water on Puerto Lopez Beach #AtoZChallenge
Hot day + coconut water = super refreshing!
Mom loved her beach coconut water. The coconut guy sells all over Puerto Lopez and opens them with a machete.

Oooh… could he make that two, please?
Emily Bloomquist
He sure can! Enjoy 🙂

Tender coconuts are awesome. Especially, after we finish drinking the sweet water, we cut open the fruit and eat the delicious kernel inside. Excellent for summers.
PS: Me and my friends used to cut open a coconut, drain quarter of the water and replace it with Vodka. Heavenly!

I love the inside, too, Varad. When we finish the water, we return to the guy we bought the coconut from and he cuts it in half so we can eat it. Yum!
Ha ha! You made your own mixed drink, right inside the coconut.
Anagha Yatin
My early memories of visiting beach with my family are replete with coconut water. As a child I could never finish drinking it and then would have to request my elder brother to do me the favour of finishing it. Those were the days!
Thanks Emily for giving me a nostalgic trip down the memory lane.
Emily Bloomquist
What fun memories, Anagha! I had my first one as an adult. They must seem so huge when you are a child. Happy to provide some nostalgia for you. Thanks for sharing your memories. 🙂

The only coconut water I've ever had was in a little box with a plastic straw attached to its side. It was not a delightful beverage. I'm sure that I'd like the fresh stuff, should I ever be somewhere that served it.
Emily Bloomquist
Oh you are missing out, Ally. If ever you are in a location that sells fresh ones, the young, green ones like the one my mom is holding have the sweetest juice. When you are done with the juice, chop the coconut in half (with your machete or maybe an ax) and scoop out the fresh coconut. Mmmmmmmmm…..

It's actually snowing here – oh to be drinking fresh coconut juice on a beach!
Emily Bloomquist
Brrrrr. I rarely miss snow. Especially April snow. Hope it melts and begins warming up soon, Iain.

Thank you Tawnya!

that sounds so yummy!!!

It is Lisa! If you ever have an opportunity, I recommend it!
Heather Erickson
That does look refreshing! It's snowing here right now. (brrr)
Emily Bloomquist
Wish I could send you some warmth. And a fresh coconut…
Nilanjana Bose
Coconut water is the most refreshing drink – very common and megapopular on the beaches back home. The 'cream' is not to be sneered at either.
Emily Bloomquist
Glad to hear it is megapopular – it should be! My favorite by far. Is the 'cream' what I call the meat (the white fruit part inside)? If so, it is perfect snack after the water. Thanks Nilanjana!
Donna B. McNicol
I love fresh coconut meat but have never tried coconut water!

The next chance you get, try it from a young coconut like the one my mom is holding – soooo yummy!

There is nothing like fresh coconut! Drink it, eat it, love it!
Emily Bloomquist
I absolutely agree Keith!
John Holton
Can't say I've ever had coconut water, or fresh coconut like this. Looks interesting.
Emily Bloomquist
It is so good and refreshing, John! You should try one if you are ever in a place that has them.
Nancy Adkins
I love green coconuts. What we call spoon meat or jelly coconut. After we drink the water we crack them in half and if you are lucky you can eat the coconut jelly with a spoon. My favorite treat!!!

I never know what to call the white, edible part on the inside surrounding the water. Spoon meat or coconut jelly makes perfect sense. The guy who sells them to us splits it in half with his machete and we spoon out the yum. 🙂
Heidi
Very good for you!
Emily Bloomquist
Yes Heidi! Such a tasty healthy treat!
DeeDee
I 1000% percent agree…I love coconut water and the white thing after we drink it off..
PS: So much health benefit too

It is so great and, as you say, so healthy, too!

Yummy! As Nilanjana said above, beaches and towns and cities near the sea sell fresh coconuts all year long. Coconut water and fresh sugarcane juice are my favourite drinks.
Love the smile on your mum's face:)

I keep hearing about how great sugarcane juice is and it is sold not far from here. I will have to finally try it sometime soon. This was my mom's first vacation outside of North America and we had so much fun. 🙂 Thanks Arti!
Karen O'Connor
I've never tried coconut water but I bet it's delicious when it's so fresh. Weekends In Maine
Emily Bloomquist
Next time you are in a tropical locale, it is a must try, Karen! Hope you like it.
Eva A.
I've never tried it. I'd like to so much!
Emily Bloomquist
It must be sold somewhere near you, Eva. I think you would love it!
Arlee Bird
My wife is a coconut fanatic. There are street vendors around where we live who sell cut-up coconut and they usually include the water in a baggie. We almost always have to stop when we pass one.

Tossing It Out
Emily Bloomquist
Yum! Then you can easily carry it home and drink it later. Some people here bring containers so the coconut guy can fill them up with the water. Thanks!
Hilary Melton-Butcher
Hi Emily – I've never tried a fresh coconut .. obviously I need to do so when I get a chance … you and your commenting buddies have sold it to me!! Cheers Hilary
Emily Bloomquist
Oh yes, Hilary, you will have to try one! As you can see, they are very popular to a wide variety of tastes.
