I am a US Expat in Ecuador. I grew up on a Minnesota farm, worked in IT in California's Silicon Valley, then moved to a coastal Ecuador fishing village. My goal is to share Ecuador with you, one snippet at a time. Topics include attractions, compassion, ecotourism, Ecuador products, everyday Ecuador, and flora and fauna. Please let me know what you would like to read more about!
Absolutely Iain. I have seen them from shore, frolicking out in the water. The best view was from a boat. They swam next to us for a while. It was very cool.
Being offshore in a small boat just sitting watching dolphins is a memory I will always treasure. Like you say though – not the easiest of creatures to photograph!
Dolphins are among my favorite animals, and I agree, they are hard to photograph. One second they're here, the next, they're gone. Good thing you found some "stable" ones.
Oh wow, that’s interesting. Thanks for this information. Dolphins are so fun, but honestly I think I’ll be scared to swim with them. So sad you couldn’t get a picture. Maybe you can videotape it next time! KeepingupwithMJ.com
Dolphins are amazing! They glide and spin so effortlessly and with such grace, making me, all kitted out in scuba gear, look and feel utterly cumbersome. Thanks for taking me back to visions of beauty. Cheers!
Dear Husband and I were able to participate in a whale watching excursion out of Long Beach California several years ago. The whales were amazing, but watching all of the dolphins was even more entertaining. I'd love to do it again someday. Very fun post.

An experience I wish everyone could have, Keith! So glad you have had it. Rosey might even enjoy it as long as she didn't fall out of the boat.
Heather Erickson
What a cool sculpture. It's interesting how the dolphin skeleton looks very much like the palm branches around it.
Emily Bloomquist
You are so right, Heather. The skeleton blends right in with the palm branches.
Natasha
Such beautiful creatures of the deep blue sea. They always fascinate me with their intelligence.

Exactly Tamara! The just never stay in one spot long enough for me to push the shutter button. The stable ones were much easier 🙂

I know it's controversial, but my swim with the dolphins in Mexico was the most amazing experience!!

That had to be an amazing experience!

That’s a beautiful sculpture. I had to look up porpoise and dolphin to remind myself of the differences. That was a fun little aside!
Emily Bloomquist
I just looked it up, too! I was on a boat in Alaska with a bunch of porpoises swimming with us and they were also hard to photograph. Thanks Donna!

They are so beautiful and active – playing with each other, swimming with boats, basically being social. Hope you have a chance to see them sometime!

My first experience to see dolphin in the wild was four years ago in Naples, Florida which was a huge delight! 🙂

Awesome that the dolphins inserted themselves into your whale watching excursion! Thank you for sharing, Marcy!

Hi Emily – it must be amazing to see dolphins fairly regularly in the waters off your shore; while that sculpture is a delight – cheers Hilary
Emily Bloomquist
It is amazing, Hilary. Much easier to photograph the sculpture 🙂
