Some on that list sounds appealing. It beats the darn ADT salesmen that come by at least once a month trying to sell home security. I'm tempted to steal one of their signs from a neighbor's house and put it in front of mine. The sign alone would stop the thieves and also stop their salesmen from ringing the doorbell.
Emily Bloomquist
We do not see security system salesmen down here. When we lived in the US, I often thought about just getting a sign, too. Thanks for stopping by DC.

Lovely photos,Emily!

Thank you, Cindy, and thanks for stopping by and commenting!

Love that photo and would enjoy shopping from that cart. We have a local florist who delivers bouquets by bicycle and it always makes my heart smile to see (and sometimes receive) such goodness.
Emily Bloomquist
Plants riding around town on open air wheels are such a day brightener 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Deborah!

The greenery cart is especially pretty. Do they just ride around like the Schwann's man, stopping at the homes of regular customers, is it more door to door, or do you have to chase them down to make a purchase?
Emily Bloomquist
I love it when the Schwann man comes to my sister's house when I am visiting. Such great memories from childhood.
Here, they walk up and down streets calling out whatever they are selling. If you are interested, you come out of your house to check out their items. It pays to have a loud voice in this business. We hear the shrimp seller from more than a block away. "CAMARON! CAMARON! CAMARON!" (Spanish for shrimp.) It helps that windows are rarely closed. Thanks for stopping by and commenting Heather!

Sounds amazing. It truly is a step into a different time and place. How wonderful to live in a place where not only are window are open but people are home and around. So many communities are empty from 9-5.
I am really loving reading your blog.
Emily Bloomquist
You called it exactly, Nancy – it is like living in a different time and place. Thank you very much. 🙂

You had me at croissants…
😉
Emily Bloomquist
Hahaha! Made fresh daily, of course 🙂

Hi Emily – this sounds delightful … love the idea of the bicycle salesman in a small village … when I was a child we had the fishman call on Fridays in his van, and sometimes an ironmonger type salesman … selling brushes and wares … but this would suit me – particularly in Ecuador – cheers Hilary
Emily Bloomquist
Hi Hilary, Some of our other entrepreneurs walk around with pots and pans. They might be as close to your childhood ironmonger as we have. You are right, it is delightful. Thank you!

Ecuador seems to have some things in common with India. Here in Delhi we get salesmen with vegetables, fruit, brooms, fish – sometimes, carpets and many repair guys – mainly for your pots and pans. Snippets of your life in Puerto Lopez are fascinating – I'm enjoying them although it's possible this is the first time that I'm commenting.
Emily Bloomquist
How nice that you also have the opportunity to buy products right at your home, Kalpanaa. If we have repair guys, I have not seen them but what a great idea. Thanks so much for reading and for commenting today.

Interesting theme don't know much about equador
here from Second thoughts First
Emily Bloomquist
Thanks Pooja. You have a lot of global company in not knowing a lot about Ecuador.

Five years in Ecuador. How interesting. I'd love more of the back story. I will keep following as this looks like a place we may want to spend some time. I appreciate you stopping by my "place" in the challenge. I am contemplating a blog name change. Did that cause any problems?
Emily Bloomquist
Thanks for coming over from your blog, Linda. The condensed version of my back story: My husband and I were working in the Silicon Valley but dreamed of living more meaningful yet relaxing lives. We studied many countries then visited Ecuador and fell in love. We moved about a year and a half later after selling almost everything we owned.
Changing my blog name has caused no issues so far. I expected some glitches but none so far. Remember to change it in Feedburner or whichever software you use for email in addition to the Blogger Header in Layout and Blogger Settings -> Basic -> Title.
If you decide to visit, let me know! Thanks for commenting.

You saw less of this in Cuenca but still saw some of it. I loved it and loved supporting folks who worked hard for the money.

That would be so dangerous for me. I love plants! If all I had to do was walk outside to a cart instead of drive to the store and deal with crowds, my house would be full of greenery. I have enough plants to water as it is.
Emily Bloomquist
This guy brings around some really nice plants, too. Your house might turn into a greenhouse 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and commenting Jean!
Nilanjana Bose
Looks so fresh! and we get door-to-door vendors back where I come from too.
Emily Bloomquist
How cool that you had this back home, too, Nila! Thanks for visiting and commenting.
Arti Jain
There's a plant seller who visits my in-laws place in New Delhi and his cart looks as green and lush as the one in your picture.
What I love in the picture is the fabulous artwork on the shed wall/door in the background.
Who wouldn't want croissants and towels being sold by vendors?
Thank you for mini-virtual-tours of Ecuador Emily:)

Emily Bloomquist
Arti, that artwork is beautiful! I have been slowly taking pictures of the artwork around town for a future post.
Arlee Bird
I see street vendors around our area more often than I used to. Not quite the selection yet that you have in Ecuador, but there is food.
