We don't see fis markets like this anymore.
Emily Bloomquist
It is probably a bit of a throwback for you. I imagine they are less personal these days in the UK. Thanks Bob!
Lisa
that is FRESH fish!!
Emily Bloomquist
True, Lisa, it doesn't get any fresher 🙂
Heather Erickson
That looks like so much fun!
Emily Bloomquist
It really is, Heather!
Nilanjana Bose
Fish is a staple where I come from – so yes, would get on my bucket list pretty fast.
Emily Bloomquist
I think you would love it, Nilanjana!
Jean Davis
I've never been to a fish market. I would imagine the fish smell must be pretty strong there. I do like fresh fish though.
Emily Bloomquist
Glad you mentioned the smell, Jean. If you visit in the early morning, the smells are more of surf and sea than fish. By afternoon, especially on hot days, it gets really strong. In the late afternoon, all non-sand surfaces washed (you can't see it in the photo but there is a big covered building with concrete flooring behind me). So by the time the sun sets, the smell is gone.

Hi Emily – love fresh fish … lots available in Cornwall when my Ma lived down there … this looks wonderful – I'd be there every day!! Cheers Hilary
Emily Bloomquist
A lot of people shop there every day so you would have company, Hilary! Buying shrimp one day, tilapia the next, then tuna, then dorado, etc.
Nancy Adkins
Looks WONDERFUL. I love anything from the ocean. And this looks amazing!
Emily Bloomquist
Then you would love this, Nancy! And probably many of the same fish you see in the islands, too.

I remember the fish market when we were in the Galapagos. Organized chaos, including the pelicans/sea lions!! Loved it..

Exactly Donna! It is organized chaos 🙂

Nice snapshot of a part of life here in Puerto Lopez. I like the blog's new design, too!!!
Emily Bloomquist
Thank you Sherryne! So kind of you to compliment the new design. I was going for a cleaner, simpler look and I think this works.

I haven't been to a fish market but my grandparents use to get lobsters from the lobster men as soon as they came in from pulling their traps. There is nothing better than fresh seafood. Weekends In Maine
Emily Bloomquist
How cool, Karen, to get the lobsters right from the traps. Fresh seafood is the best! Thanks for stopping by.
Eva A.
It could easily be a Moroccan fish market. Except for the "Banco de la Pichincha" T-shirt! It isn't impossible, cut certainly more difficult to be spotted here 🙂
Emily Bloomquist
How cool, Eva! Local fútbol shirts do give away locations. LOL! Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Arti Jain
A great shot with the fish. Is that sea bass?
I have a friend whose husband's called Clive. His surname is Bass. Apparently, he was often teased at school.
His name popped in my head when I saw your picture Emily:)
G is for Golden Cap
Emily Bloomquist
It is a sea bass, Arti. Wow, you know your fish! Oh that is funny about your friend's name. Thank you for your kind comments!
Kalpanaa M
This is amazing – it couldn't get fresher than this.
Emily Bloomquist
It certainly couldn't, Kalpanaa! Thanks for visiting and commenting.
Keith's Ramblings
I can buy fish straight off the boats on a beach near me, but it's nothing like the market in your picture!

Very cool that you can buy it straight off the boats, too, Keith. Thanks for visiting and commenting!
DeeDee
There are markets like these in India too
Tongue Twister for G
Emily Bloomquist
Very cool, DeeDee! It seems there are quite a few similarities between Ecuador and India. Hopefully I will visit India someday and see them myself. Thanks for visiting and commenting!
Arlee Bird
I do like fresh seafood. It's good for you too.

I recommend everyone experience it at least once. Such a different world from what most people are accustomed to. Thanks for road tripping, Ronel!
